Galgos are the most abused animal on the planet, with an estimated 100,000 being killed or abandoned in Spain every year.

Their lives prior to their “disposal” is just as cruel as they are regularly abused as they race or hunt for their masters.  A few small charities have been working numerous avenues (legal fights, raising awareness, and extensive rescue efforts) to help save these amazing animals.  Whovian Running Club has always been, and will always be, in this fight.

Whovian Running Club is thrilled to announce the charity partner for our final event of 2020 is Daphne Legacy Tour!

Since its inception, Whovian Running Club has been dedicated to saving Galgos (Spanish Greyhounds). Four different Galgos organizations have been supported by WRC since 2016, but over the last few years, we’ve dedicated one event every year in honor of our favorite Galga: Daphne. Daphne Legacy Tour’s mission is to facilitate all aspects of the transportation of Galgos from Spain to the United States to adoptive, loving homes. As the plight of the Galgo is relatively unknown in the United States, but rescue facilities have households actively seeking dogs to adopt, the addition of new Galgo families in the U.S. brings new voices to increase awareness of this horrible situation, and even more forever homes for these gentle animals. With WRC’s substantial support, Daphne Legacy Tour set the record for the largest single migration of Spanish Greyhounds in history…three times!

The WRC considers it among our proudest accomplishments to have helped bring more than 100 Galgos home to their new families through its support of Daphne Legacy Tour. Now with the challenges of a global pandemic deterring international travel from the US to Spain, your support is more important than ever, as DLT is looking to bring on Spanish team members to assist from that side of the Atlantic!

Come back promptly at Noon ET tomorrow for the unveiling of our fifth event of 2020, and get ready to run like the wind alongside and in support of our official mascots, the Galgos!
